SNS LDNers feat. DTG

Closing out the first series of the LDNers editorials, we met up with DTG, a YouTuber turned Artist, who gave us an insight into how 2020 went for him, how he managed to adapt to the challenges faced due to the pandemic, and what we can expect to see from him this year. We also spoke with him about his favourite sneakers, as well as which sneaker in particular he’ll be keeping a close eye on in 2021. Check out the interview below!

SNS: Hi DTG, how you doing? Give us a quick intro on who you are and what you do?

DTG: My name’s Deji, I go by DTG and I’m a YouTuber turned Artist from South London, Croydon.

SNS: What first inspired you to get into music and how would you describe the development into the music that you typically create nowadays?

DTG: It all started in the choir. I was always involved with choirs from school to church and even as an extra curriculum you could say. When I lived abroad in Nigeria, I was also a part of my school choir there and started to take music a lot more seriously. Fast forwarding to having started YouTube and building a name for myself, I saw a lot of people around me at the time making music and it prompted me too as well.

SNS: 2020 was a crazy year for everyone – but looking at your Spotify Wrapped numbers, it seems you really stepped up and made the most of it. How did you manage to adapt to the challenges faced? And what would you say kept you motivated to achieve what you did?

DTG: 2020 was a crazy year for us all literally as you said! A lot of things changed, and we all had to try and adapt to a new way of life. For me personally, it opened a lot of room to think and plan more than I get to usually. Rover, of course having done what it did, played a massive role in my 2020 because it was such a massive hit and did crazy numbers throughout the year. Seeing it first enter the charts around the 50 mark to the Top 3 mark was a very fun time period as I was always checking the charts and streams and general growth on it. Other than that, for me as an Artist I just had to find other ways to do what I normally do while being on a National Lockdown.

SNS: You mentioned that you used to create content on YouTube before transitioning into an artist – is that something you’d ever get back into?

DTG: I only really put YouTube aside to take music even more seriously and make that transition. I’ve always had a passion for content creation and entertaining as a whole so I can definitely see myself going back into it alongside the music!

SNS: And what can we expect to see from you this year? Do you have any projects lined up?

DTG: I’ve got a gaming show I’ve been working on with my team Global Discovery alongside Go2Game and that will be coming to light soon! Definitely going to be putting out a lot more music this year too! Might even have an EP for you guys this year.

SNS: From your IG we can see that you’re into your Nike and Jordan sneakers – what would you say was your biggest influence in your taste/preference of sneakers growing up? And has it changed much now?

DTG: I’ve only really gotten into trainers recently you know. I’ve always liked trainers and stuff but never really got into it. I don’t actually have any influences at the moment but that can always change!

SNS: So, what’s in your current rotation? And do you have a favourite pair in your collection?

DTG: My Triple S’ are like my go to shoes at the moment. Can’t go wrong with all black trainers and they boost the height a little bit . You also can’t ever go wrong with a pair of White Air Forces unless they’re creased up of course ahaha. I often wear Jordan 1’s or 11’s – I’ve got the red and black 1’s that I wear a bit, as well as the Jubilee’s. Big fan of the NoTwoWays collection by Callux and his crew! They only have 2 pairs out at the moment, but I rock with both colourways heavily! My favourites would have to be the Off-White Air Forces! First proper trainers I ever got, and they were a Birthday present from my manager!

SNS: Is there any silhouette in particular that you’re going to have your eye on this year?

DTG: I really like Jordan 4’s. They have such a nice shape and often come out with banging colourways. I’ve got the PSG’s and the Fire Red’s at the moment and I’m definitely trying to get more!
